Thawing

I believe in a world without limits
I believe in the goodness of life
I believe I could reach out
and touch you I believe that our love

but while I lick my wounds
and wait for you to thaw
I feel my love calcify
it's so tempting to go to war

I remember a time
you looked at life
as a joyful mystery
you longed to connect
with that higher place
and you believed in synchronicity
I've watched you harden

carrying time
like a heavy weight
now I'm picking up
the pieces of my life

I'm tempting fate

I belive in the power of prayer

so why is it so difficult
to cross the bridge to you
when I reach for your eyes
and they seem to despise me
get so scared that that's the truth

so I'm taking myself
away to a place
I hid in long ago
alone with my muse
my trusted refuge
I've got a place to go
and I can be reached
down a golden street
but there's dangers on the way
you need to shed your skin
if you want to get in
if you want to come and play
